What Is Stone Paper?

Stone paper is an innovative paper-like material made primarily from calcium carbonate (CaCO₃), one of the most common minerals on Earth, and a small amount of non-toxic resin. Unlike traditional wood pulp paper, stone paper is produced without cutting down trees, using water, or relying on harsh chemicals.

The production process involves grinding calcium carbonate into a fine powder, which is then mixed with polyethylene resin to bind it. This mixture is pressed into thin sheets, creating a smooth, durable surface that resembles traditional paper but with enhanced qualities.

Stone paper is waterproof, tear-resistant, and silky to the touch. It doesn’t yellow over time and is recyclable through plastic recycling systems. Due to its durability and eco-friendly production, it’s often used in notebooks, shopping bags, packaging, and even maps.
