The Production Process of Stone Paper: Green and Efficient Without Polluting the Environment

The production process of stone paper is a major manifestation of its environmental protection and efficiency, which is quite different from the complex and polluting production process of traditional wood-based paper. The whole production process of stone paper can be roughly divided into several key links: raw material processing, mixing, extrusion, calendering and cutting.

First of all, in the raw material processing link, the main raw material calcium carbonate is crushed and ground into ultra-fine powder. The calcium carbonate used here is mostly derived from natural limestone, marble and other minerals, which are rich in reserves and low in cost. During the processing, no harmful substances are produced, and the impact on the environment is minimal.

Then, the ultra-fine calcium carbonate powder is mixed with a small amount of polyethylene and other additives in a certain proportion. The additives play a role in bonding and modifying, making the mixture have good plasticity and processability. The mixing process is carried out in a closed equipment to avoid dust pollution.

Next is the extrusion link. The mixed raw materials are sent to the extruder, where they are heated and melted, and then extruded into a thin film through a die. The heating temperature in the extrusion process is strictly controlled to ensure that the raw materials are fully melted without producing harmful gases. Compared with the pulping process of traditional paper, which requires a lot of water and chemicals, the extrusion process of stone paper is water-free and chemical-free, which greatly saves water resources and avoids water pollution. After extrusion, the thin film enters the calendering link. Through the rolling of calendering rolls, the thin film is smoothed and thickened to meet the required thickness and flatness of the paper.

Finally, the calendered film is cut into different specifications of stone paper products according to market needs. The entire production process of stone paper is simple, efficient, and has no three wastes (waste water, waste gas, waste residue) discharge, which is a typical green production process. With the continuous optimization of production technology, the production efficiency of stone paper is constantly improving, and the quality of products is also continuously enhanced, laying a solid foundation for its large-scale promotion and application.
