How to recycle the stone paper?

Recycling stone paper is different from traditional paper because it does not contain wood fibers. Here’s how it can be recycled properly:
1. Mechanical Recycling (Preferred Method)
Stone paper is mainly composed of calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) and a small amount of non-toxic resin (HDPE).
It can be recycled with plastic waste (Category 2: HDPE recycling stream) in regions where plastic recycling facilities accept it.
The material can be reprocessed into new stone paper, plastic products, or even construction materials like artificial stone and plastic boards.
2. Recycling with Inert Waste
Since stone paper is made from minerals, some recycling centers accept it as inert waste, where it can be ground into powder and used in cement or construction materials.
3. Decomposing Naturally
If exposed to sunlight and weather conditions, stone paper photodegrades into fine mineral powder over time, making it a more eco-friendly alternative to plastic-based materials.
However, it does not compost like traditional paper because it lacks organic fibers.
4. Recycling Challenges
Some recycling centers may not be familiar with stone paper, so it’s essential to check local recycling guidelines before disposal.
It should not be mixed with traditional paper recycling since it does not contain cellulose.
